Bangladesh Women have named a 16-player squad for a tour that is a first of its kind: a three-match ODI series against Australia that marks the first-ever bilateral series between the two sides to be played on Australian soil. Regular captain Nigar Sultana Joty continues to lead the side, with spinner Nahida Akter named vice-captain, ahead of matches at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on October 9, 11 and 14.
Bangladesh Women have played Australia before, but never a bilateral series hosted in Australia itself, making this trip a genuine milestone for the program regardless of the results that follow. The tour opened with a warm-up fixture against Queensland on October 6, giving the squad some match practice against local conditions before the series proper gets under way, with the group set to depart for home on October 15.
Bangladesh's touring party is: Nigar Sultana Joty (c), Nahida Akter, Shorna Akter, Marufa Akter, Rabeya Khan, Ritu Moni, Sobhana Mostary, Sarmin Sultana, Sharmin Akter Supta, Shanjida Akther Maghla, Sultana Khatun, Dilara Akter, Farzana Haque, Disha Biswas, Murshida Khatun and Habiba Islam Pinky. Pacer Marufa Akter leads the bowling attack, while batter Farzana Haque returns to the ODI setup and Murshida Khatun is back in the fold after last featuring in a Bangladesh shirt in January 2025.
Pace-bowling all-rounder Disha Biswas and 17-year-old Habiba Islam Pinky both earn their first senior ODI call-ups on this tour. Biswas is yet to make her full international debut in any format, while Pinky has a single prior international appearance, a T20I against India in May 2024, making this trip a significant step up in both exposure and opposition quality for two of the squad's newer faces.
All three ODIs count toward the ICC Women's Championship, the qualification pathway for the next 50-over World Cup, where Bangladesh currently sit well down the table. Results in Brisbane against a top-ranked Australian side carry real weight for their standing in that cycle, even though Bangladesh go into the series as clear underdogs on paper against the reigning world champions on their own patch.
