The BCCI announced India's squads for the upcoming home series against West Indies on September 16, bringing back two established names in Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj while leaving out both Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya.
The three-match ODI series opens in Trivandrum on September 27, before moving to Guwahati and New Chandigarh. Shubman Gill continues as captain, with KL Rahul his vice-captain and wicketkeeper. The squad reads: Gill (c), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul (vc), Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Mohammed Siraj, Auqib Nabi, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Naman Dhir. Punjab all-rounder Naman Dhir and Jammu and Kashmir seamer Auqib Nabi earn their first ODI call-ups, while Jadeja and Siraj return to the format after being left out of India's most recent assignments in it.
The five-match T20I series follows from October 6 in Lucknow. Shreyas Iyer captains, with Tilak Varma as his deputy, in a squad that reads: Iyer (c), Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Tilak Varma (vc), Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav and Mayank Yadav. Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the series, while Mayank Yadav returns to the set-up after missing the ongoing series against Afghanistan.
Neither Rishabh Pant nor Hardik Pandya feature in either squad. Pandya continues to be managed through a fitness recovery, while Pant's omission — after a lean recent run with the bat — comes alongside his appointment to captain Rest of India in next month's Irani Cup, a domestic assignment that will now serve as his route back into form.
Bringing Jadeja and Siraj back for the ODIs restores two players with a strong recent record in the format to a squad that also blends in uncapped names in Dhir and Nabi, suggesting the selectors are simultaneously rewarding proven performers and testing bench depth ahead of a heavy home season. Leaving out Pant and Pandya together is the bigger selection story: both were automatic picks not long ago, and having Pant work his way back through first-class captaincy rather than a direct recall signals the selectors want to see clearer form evidence before restoring him to the white-ball setup.
