With Marizanne Kapp's earlier withdrawal from WBBL|12 already reshaping one squad, two more pieces of roster news have landed as clubs finalise their lists ahead of the season's October 29 start. Alice Capsey has signed with Sydney Sixers, while Melbourne Stars have confirmed the returns of Amy Jones and Dani Gibson as Kapp's replacements.
The 22-year-old England international has agreed a one-year deal to join the three-time WBBL champions after departing Melbourne Renegades. Capsey has made 46 WBBL appearances in franchise cricket to date and has represented England 95 times across formats since her 2022 debut, including a run to the final of this year's ICC Women's T20 World Cup. At the Sixers, she joins fellow England international Sophia Dunkley in a squad now being shaped by new WBBL head coach Peter Clarke.
Kapp's decision to sit out WBBL|12 comes down to scheduling: South Africa are due to play a Test against India from December 9, just four days after this season's WBBL final, and the 36-year-old all-rounder told Melbourne Stars she wanted to prioritise her Proteas commitments. In her place, the Stars have re-signed Amy Jones and Dani Gibson, both returning after representing the club in WBBL 2025. Jones was Melbourne's second-highest run-scorer last season with 234 runs at a strike rate of 125.80, while Gibson added 170 runs at a strike rate of 139.34.
Losing a player of Kapp's calibre would unsettle most squads, but bringing back two players who already know the club's structure — rather than chasing a new overseas name on short notice — is a lower-risk way for the Stars to plug the gap. For Sydney, Capsey's signing adds a proven top-order option with a genuine white-ball pedigree to a squad already carrying international depth, giving last season's finalists another route to the top of the order.
Squads continue to take shape ahead of the October 29 start, with the Hobart Hurricanes returning as defending champions. More overseas and domestic signings are expected across the league in the coming weeks as the contracting window moves toward its final shape.
