The WPL 2027 player auction at Kochi's Grand Hyatt wrapped up with 25 of the 27 available slots filled for a combined ₹6.25 crore, after Sophie Molineux's tournament-high ₹1.1 crore move to UP Warriorz headlined the opening sales. The slots, seven of them reserved for overseas players, were filled from a pool of 146 registered players, after the five franchises had already locked in 63 retentions earlier in October.
Kiran Navgire went to Delhi Capitals for ₹75 lakh against her ₹40 lakh base price, finishing as the second-most expensive player of the entire auction behind Molineux and the most expensive Indian buy of the day.
Australian all-rounder Jess Jonassen went to Royal Challengers Bengaluru for ₹40 lakh, while India batter G Kamalini, released by Mumbai Indians ahead of the auction, was picked up by Gujarat Giants for the same price, returning to the tournament with a new franchise.
Shweta Sehrawat went to Mumbai Indians for ₹20 lakh, making her the most expensive uncapped player sold at the auction, a sign of the bidding interest in India's domestic batting talent pool even in a mini-auction with limited slots.
UP Warriorz, who came in with the largest remaining purse, bought eight players for a combined ₹2.6 crore to fill their squad to 18, leaving ₹1.15 crore unused. Gujarat Giants added three players for ₹80 lakh to also reach a full 18-player squad. Mumbai Indians bought six players for ₹70 lakh, Delhi Capitals added four for ₹1.05 crore, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru bought four for ₹1.1 crore, with both of the last two sides leaving a slot open and only around ₹5 lakh of purse remaining each.
Navgire's move to a new franchise makes her one of the more closely watched middle-order picks once squad announcements firm up, while Jonassen gives Royal Challengers Bengaluru added all-round depth alongside their existing retained core. With retentions locked in since early October and the auction now closed, attention shifts to the full squad lists and the build-up to the new season.
