Before the auction itself, all ten franchises face a nearer-term deadline: retained and released player lists are due by September 28, with the fuller picture of who stays and who hits the market expected to firm up around mid-November, a few weeks ahead of the Goa event.
IPL 2027 will be the league's 20th edition, and the board has already signalled it wants a bigger occasion built around that anniversary. Landing the final auction of this cycle back in India, at a venue better suited to franchise logistics than a fly-in overseas location, fits that framing as much as it resolves the practical hotel-and-travel complaints that pushed the last three auctions abroad in the first place.
